Christmas Crafts

Have you been wanting to make a mesh wreath to hang on your door but weren't sure how to begin? Here is a quick tutorial so you can have a fancy wreath for your door, for Christmastime, or anytime.

Items Needed: ✓ 1 to 2 rolls of Deco Mesh (poly mesh)

✓ Pipe cleaners of a matching color ✓ Wire wreath form

Optional Items: ✓ Wooden cross (or other embellishment)

✓ Acrylic paint ✓ Paintbrushes ✓ Hot glue gun ✓ Hot glue sticks

Step One: Cut your pipe cleaners into thirds,

but be sure to leave one whole to use as a hanger.

If you are going to paint an embel- lishment, do that fi rst so it can dry. Gather the end of the mesh into one

hand. (Fold neatly; do not wad it up.) Secure it to one of the inner rings of the wreath form using a pipe cleaner folded in half. Leave the loose ends of the pipe cleaner at the front of the wreath on this tie; it will be needed later.

Step Three: Continue grabbing and securing the

mesh to the two middle rings, alternat- ing the ring to which you tie the mesh. Once the middle ring of mesh is com- pleted, continue on to the outer ring. If you run out of mesh, gather the end of the fi rst roll and the beginning of the second roll and secure them to- gether, making sure the loose ends are concealed at the back of the wreath. Then continue making grabs and se- curing them to the wreath frame. When you get to the end of the outer ring, gather the ends of the mesh to- gether and tie them to the ring. Again, make sure the ends are concealed at the back of the wreath.

Step Two: Move down the mesh six to eight

inches and neatly gather another handful of mesh. (Adjust the length of each grab to adjust the fullness of the wreath.) Wire it to the inner ring of the form keeping the loose ends at the back of the form. Push this tie close to the original tie. Continue these steps until you have made a complete ring of mesh around the inner edge of the form. On the last tie of the inner ring, use the very fi rst pipe cleaner, this time securing the tie at the back of the wreath form.

Step Four: Using a hot glue gun, glue the cross

(or other embellishment) to the wreath hiding an imperfection if needed. After the glue has had time to cool, attach the full pipe cleaner to the top of the frame to use as a hanger. When the wreath is completed, clean up the back of the form trim- ming any loose ends of pipe cleaners that may show and fl uff the mesh in the front so it has the look you want. Hang it and enjoy the complements of all the people who see it.
