Poppy Hills Course of the Year Finalist A

year after being selected Course of the Year by the California Golf Course Owners Association, Poppy Hills is aiming for the national award.

In December, Poppy Hills was one of four courses from across

the nation selected as a finalist for National Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owner’s Association. The National Course of the Year Award honors a member demonstrating four criteria: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of the ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community and significant contribution to the game. The Course of the Year Award winners come from the NCGOA’s core membership, which make an outstanding contri- bution to the sport in their markets and are model operations to their peers.

Owned by the NCGA, Poppy Hills has hosted the PGA Tour’s

First Tee Open since completing its own award-winning renova- tion in 2014. The course has also become a leader in water stew- ardship practices and remains involved with youth-targeted philanthropic endeavors including the highly acclaimed Youth on Course program. Other accolades since the renovation include being named Best

Renovation by Golf Digest (2014) and Best Public Renovation by Links Magazine (2014). “We’re honored and excited to be named a finalist for this pres- tigious award,” Poppy Hills General Manager Brad Shupe said.

“We’re also thrilled for our members who call Poppy Hills home.” The three other finalists for National Course of the Year are

The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort (Indiana), Canoe Brook Country Club (New Jersey) and Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club (Florida).

All of the finalists were recognized during an awards ceremony

at the 2017 Golf Business Conference in Orlando, FL, Feb. 7-9. The winner was to be announced at the Celebration Dinner on Feb. 9.
