NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship Poppy Hills GC | Oct. 3–4
Olympic Club members Randy Haag and Jason Anthony continued their heroics at Poppy Hills.
The two shot a final round 6-under 65 to finish at 12-
under 130 and came from behind to win by one over the tandem of Steve Woods and Jeff Gilchrist. In December 2015, Anthony and Haag earned medalist honors in a U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifier at Poppy Hills with a 62. For the 33-year-old Anthony, it was his first NCGA
victory after a number of runner-up finishes. The now 57-year-old Haag, meanwhile, notched his 15th NCGA victory (non-Senior), moving him to within one of Casey Boyns on the career NCGA wins list. “We complement each other really well. If one guy is out of the hole the other guy steps up,” Haag said. “At the end of the day, it’s about having fun.” Both stepped up on the 333-yard, par-4 5th. After
Anthony nearly aced the hole, Haag went on to sink a 30-footer for his own eagle. Following that, the two were off to the races, as they’d birdie four of their next six holes to get to a total of 11-under. Woods and Gilchrist, meanwhile, who were leading
Anthony and Haag by two to start the day after a first round 63, played their first 11 holes at only 2-under en route to a 68. “We just didn’t get it going today,” Gilchrist said. “It’s just one of those things.”

Hanna-Wehrman Cup Poppy Hills GC | Oct. 17–18
Team rookie Kyle Davies tallied the winning point as the NCGA continued to roll in the annual Hanna-Wehrman
Cup with an 11-9 win over their NCPGA counterparts. The victory marked the 11th straight title for the NCGA in the annual series. Prior to Davies’ heroics, the NCGA got a pair of big 5
and 4 Singles wins from Granite Bay GC member Jon Peterson and 2016 NCGA Public Links champ Matt Cohn. 2015 NCGA Player of the Year Nick Moore also shined, getting a win in Singles and teaming with Cohn to win both their Chapman and Foursomes matches. Team NCGA made its move in Foursomes, where it won
the first four matches to take a commanding 6.5-3.5 lead. The NCGA leads the overall Hanna-Wehrman Cup
series, 24-18-9.
