CIOB Novus in Ireland enjoyed a site visit to Windsor Park Stadium in

Belfast in February which is currently being redeveloped by Chartered Building Company O’Hare & McGovern. The event was arranged by Nick Oldfield FCIOB,

contracts manager for O’Hare & McGovern. Included was a site tour as well as a question and answer session which included queries on construction techniques, supply chain challenges, contract management, community liaison and how the stands remained open for matches while work was underway. Stuart Magill, a student at Queen’s University

The CIOB Student Challenge in Scotland was this year won by a team from Heriot Watt University. This year’s event was held at

Crieff Hydro on 11 February, and saw teams competing from Robert Gordon University, Heriot Watt University, Glasgow

Caledonian University and Napier University. Second place went to Edinburgh Napier University and third place went to another team from Heriot Watt. The teams work on a project

and then present their results to a panel of judges. This year the event included a

fun activity where the teams were mixed up and got a chance to compete and network with their peers from the other areas. As well as their trophy and

prize money, the winning team will gain a week’s work experience with sponsors Robertson Group.

McGovern for kindly facilitating this event. The site visit was the second recent event in the Irish Novus calendar. CIOB Novus exhibited at the recent Built

Environment Networking and Recruitment event at Ulster University’s Jordanstown campus in Newtownabbey. The event was very well attended with many leading construction companies keen to meet potential new placement students and employees. Students also had the opportunity to lean how the CIOB’s qualifications can enhance their career prospects.

HELPS STUDENTS The CIOB in Ireland Novus ran a CV and interview preparation workshop for student members at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) and University of Limerick (UL) in February. Students learned

about graduate opportunities, writing a CV and interview advice, including competency- based interviews.

FUND AGM The CIOB Benevolent Fund AGM will take place on 30 June at 11am at 1, Arlington Square, Downshire Way,

Bracknell. Any corporate, non-corporate or qualifying member who has made a ‘suggested contribution’ to the Funds of the association in the current financial year is entitled to attend and vote at the meeting. Other CIOB Members, who have not contributed may attend at the discretion of members of the association but may not vote.

to NCC project In March Contact we omitted to mention the involvement of NPS in the refurbishment of Norfolk County Council premises in Norwich (see p52). The consultancy group was appointed to provide a range of services for the designs and delivery of the project and its recommendations were key to the project outcome.
