our country has ever seen. “I believe the House of Rep-
resentatives should impeach Merrick Garland,” he says. “The Department of Justice
should appoint a special prose- cutor to investigate whether he committed obstruction of jus- tice and whether he lied under oath to Congress because that is precisely what the two IRS whistleblowers have alleged, and those allegations on their face are serious and credible.” FBI Director Christopher
Wray is not spared Cruz’s wrath, although the senator believes “he is not personally a leftist. But he’s a company man.
“He views his role as defend-
ing the senior career officials at the FBI, and I have made this case to him repeatedly . . . that these partisans are undermin- ing the integrity of the institu- tion. “I hear regularly from FBI
agents, from prosecutors at the DOJ, who are horrified to see institutions that they love undermined by being used to persecute the political enemies of the White House and to pro- tect and cover up the criminal conduct of the president and the friends of the White House. “And both of those have
done enormous and perhaps ir- reparable damage to the integ- rity of the FBI and the DOJ.” Strong words, for sure. But
that’s Ted Cruz. Wayne Thorburn, former
executive director of the Texas Republican Party and author of three much-praised books on Texas politics, describes Cruz as a mixture between the late Sen. Jesse Helms of North Car- olina and the late Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, referring to two GOP Senate titans in the post- war conservative movement “Cruz has a strong populist streak that is somewhat similar
BORDER CRISIS Cruz, speaking with reporters in Brownsville, Texas, says the U.S. is suffering the worst illegal immigration in its history. “It’s a humanitarian crisis and a national security crisis,” he says.
Whether the issue is illegal immigration, the right to bear arms, or investigating the politicized and weaponized Justice Department and FBI, Cruz can be depended upon to be in the middle of the debate.
