What sort of education do we expect children to receive at places like Harvard, Columbia, and UCLA? Don’t be surprised if Liberty and Hillsdale take the coveted torches of learning away
from lefty-lofty Ivy League havens, who think they’re education’s last word. Remember when college politics amounted to electing the next student body president? Let’s please encourage those like David M. Whalen, associate vice president for curriculum at Hillsdale, who’s reverting to an educational model from before the late 1950s. TORPEDOED As I read the Jerry Oppenheimer article (“Ship’s Sinking Spurs U.S. Into Horrific War,” May), I could not help but wonder why a German submarine torpedoed the Lusitania in 1915. He failed to explain the ship was

also carrying a cargo of munitions — rifle ammunition, shell casings, and fuses — made in America to support the British war effort against Germany. The U.S. during the Wilson administration was never “neutral” about the war in Europe. They employed propaganda to make the people think we were not picking a side in the war, while fueling Britain with war munitions.

51ST STATE Why isn’t Puerto Rico already the 51st state? When President Donald Trump says he wants Canada instead, that’s an insult to all Puerto Ricans.
