merica may be land of the free, home of the Constitution, a nation of individualists with rights rooted in God, not government. But once the coronavirus hit, all that fl ew out
the window. Fear-fueled prognostications
became the order of the day. Debates about free speech turned quickly into debates about acceptable speech, then quickly after that, into fi nger-wagging debates about dangerous speech. As if founders fi gured “dangerous
speech” into some sort of constitution- al exception clause. But none of that mattered.
Suddenly, dissent became criminal.
On the coronavirus, there was the gov- ernment’s line of thought — or not. Or nothing, is more like it. Socialists, collectivists, Democrats,
and leftists saw their golden opportu- nity and pounced. Shouldn’t the American people
have the right to decide for themselves whether vaccines are safe for their per- sonal use, or not? The pandemic changed that dynamic. The pandemic
opened the gate for speech police who used the cause of citi- zen safety to shutter dissenting thoughts. They capitalized on the fear-fi lled situation to advance the
idea that other speech deemed unsuitable, improper, unac- ceptable, dangerous, ought to be similarly stifl ed. They capitalized on a situation — COVID-19 — that was
unusually successful at getting American citizens to accept the idea that some speech was actually dangerous, that some speech could actually cause death. Now, America has entered a danger zone. Once the argu-
ment’s been made that free speech is great, but some free speech is irresponsible — nay, reckless, nay, dangerous — then it’s just a short hop to the conclusion that somebody has

to put a stop to this dangerous speech. Somebody’s got to fi x this.
Who? Why, the government, that’s who. The experts in government. And if government can’t do what needs to be done because
of those pesky First Amendment prohibitions against Con- gress creating laws that abridge the freedom of speech, then government’s friends in the media and technology worlds certainly can. That’s what occurred during the pandemic. Democrats, tech giants, social media hounds, main- stream media leftists, globalists, and health bureaucrats all worked fever- ishly to control the fl ow of information to the people, painting the coordinated censorship activities as best medical practices. They called Donald Trump rallies “super-spreader” events, while turning blind eyes to the violent gatherings of Black Lives Matter and antifa. They erased messages that ques-
tioned the safety of vaccines. They pulled videos containing information that countered the federal government’s viewpoints even as the federal govern- ment’s own best medical practice rec- ommendations kept changing. Americans who normally wouldn’t
stand for burdensome government crackdowns started to accept certain crackdowns out of an overwhelming
desire for a return to normalcy. The pandemic paved a path that leftists have long lusted to
lead the country to tread: censorship of dissenting viewpoints. And what’s so clever about how the left is accomplishing
this chill on free speech is they’re using the free market to bring it about — yes, the free market called social media — along with complicit citizens who have now become properly conditioned to accept that some speech is indeed dangerous and properly emboldened to call for more free speech crack- downs.
Liberty is a delicate thing. How can liberty-loving Ameri-
cans successfully wage war against the leftists and global- ists in government who’ve aligned themselves with the left- ists and globalists in the tech world to curb speech they’ve
