ublic service has paid off big time for Dr. Anthony Fauci. The ubiquitous head of the National Insti- tute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and his
wife, a full-time bioethicist at the National Institutes of Health, had amassed more than $10.4 million in earn- ings and investments by the end of 2020, federal disclo- sure forms show. Dr. Fauci, who also serves as President Joe Biden’s
chief medical adviser, is the highest-paid federal employ- ee out of more than 4 million on the government payroll, earning $434,312 a year as head of the NIAID. He has served in his current role since 1984 and is set
to have the largest pension in federal history when he retires at more than $350,000 annually. Fauci’s earnings were made public by Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., following a verbal scuffle between the lawmaker and Fauci during a Senate hearing in January. Fauci called Marshall a “moron” on a hot mic after an exchange during which the lawmaker asked about the doctor’s financial disclosures. While Fauci is the top earner among federal employ-
ees in the country, he’s not the only public servant in his household. Fauci’s wife, Dr. Christine Grady, brings home six
figures, too. She earns $176,000 as NIH’s chief of the Department of Bioethics. The Faucis aren’t just making money off their day
jobs. They also benefited financially from attending galas and ceremonies, three of which were held virtually due to the pandemic.
