ROADMAP 2023
switched, optomechanical, magneto-optic, and mechanical V grove alignment/stepper motor. Most common switches
are V groove alignment (direct fibre alignment), prism (micromechanical), beam steering techniques and MEMs, these are optomechanical. High speed switches have no moving parts and rely on organic materials in the light path, both electro-optic and magneto-optic technologies are used. Future developments in large
NxM switch arrays include smart capabilities, such as wavelength routing, and the need to develop compact large arrays for data centre installations with smaller switches needed for network deployment. Developments in faster switching speeds along with cost reduction are key. Cost reductions are necessary for large-scale remote switching roll out into the network and PON. Tere is a need for improved return loss (reduced reflections) performance for narrow linewidth lasers and high-speed modulators intended for future telecommunications. Surface reflections resulting from the light path components within the switch can be AR coated to reduce the effect caused by glass to air interfaces, other options include index matching. Tese are all undergoing development to meet future network requirements.

For Sticklers the future is focused on making life easier for installers, something evidenced in the launch of its Sticklers Pro360 Touchless Cleaner, which the company believes could change the way fibre optic technicians work by improving their fibre cleaning speed and effectiveness. Te tool quickly and completely cleans signal-blocking oils and dust across the entire end face of both male and female connector ends, with just the press of a buton. A hand-held dispensing wand
delivers a micro-dose of atomised, high-purity cleaning fluid within a narrow column of pressurised air onto a fibre optic connector end face. Te contamination is carried away from the end face with the cleaning fluid during the drying process. Te end face is leſt clean and dry aſter just one 3.5 second cycle. Compact and portable, the Pro360 Touchless Cleaner travels anywhere for use in FTTH, FTTA, data centre, aviation, naval and military applications. Te cleaning fluid is classified
as non-hazardous and non- regulated for transport by air, sea
capacity. OTN transceivers will help manufacturers address growing demand for aggregation, cross connect and switching solutions while enabling a versatile multi-service capability, according to the company, as the architecture supports aggregation and advanced bandwidth management using protected and secure data paths. Te company’s FiberComplete PRO was launched in 2022 as a
and ground. Containing less than three fluid ounces (100 ml), the Sticklers Pro360™ cleaning fluid cartridge can be carried through airport security screening. Te Sticklers™ Pro 360™ Touchless Cleaner includes adaptor tips to clean 1.25mm and 2.5mm LC and SC connectors to start with more 1.6mm, 2.0mm, MPO/MTP and Hi Density (SN, CS, MDC, MMC- VSFF) connectors in the future. Te tool also comes with two
fibre test solution with a suite of capabilities that can replace six test instruments. It is a single test port solution that fully automates all the fibre qualification tests required for the construction and certification of any type of fibre optic network. Capabilities include support
for high-fibre count projects with integration of Cable-SLM and MPO switch modules; tracking of large projects with no need
rechargeable lithium-ion bateries and charging station, an AC power supply with international adaptor, a cleaning fluid cartridge and a rugged case for storage and transport. It delivers up to 2,700 contactless cleans per each hermetically sealed cleaning fluid cartridge, giving technicians the portability they want and the fibre cleanliness they demand, all at the lowest cost per clean.

for separate spreadsheets, with support for fibre counts up to 9996 (833 x 12MPO); reduced test time for multi-fibre and MPO bundles with automatic sequencing of bi-directional test (including TrueBIDIR OTDR analysis), with no manual switching between fibres and at-a-glance view of project progress with Cable and SmartGrid views, plus pass/fail status.
