Rain, Mud and Success

Director at Garic explained, supplies like diesel, fuels, cement, etc are bulk bought for large building sites, and need to be monitored so that they do not run out. If humans do the monitoring, costly mistakes can be made, but using sensor technology, alerts can be given online when certain levels are reached, and these trigger a refilling response from the appropriate supplier. This system can also save money on journeys that can be planned ahead, rather than simply an immediate response to an urgent call for a fill up of a particular material. Another ‘watch this space’ I think.

New Machines from Altrad-Belle Altrad-Belle has cornered the market in ‘wow-factor’ displays at Plantworx,

and has won Best Display for many years. Entirely self-generated by the workers at Altrad-Belle rather than the management, it is one stand that I always visit – and usually spend at least half an hour watching and admiring as the Belle machines do what they do best. A really superb demo and ingenious too. We are going to need invention and ingenious solutions in the future so I am heartened when I see them. So, it was quite unusual to be invited for afternoon tea at Altrad-Belle. Real

freshly brewed tea and coffee accompanied by a range of freshly made cakes were a welcome distraction from the wind and rain outside. Ray Neilson gave us a run- down of the thinking and processes that led to the launch of the new range of plate compactors, generators and pressure washers.

Morris Site Machinery Updates Morris Site Machinery was keen to bring us up to date on some of the changes

it is making in its ranges. Chris Morris MD, was happy to acknowledge that the prospect of Brexit had brought about a fresh look at their options for sourcing machines, and how each bit of kit can be niched to suit a particular market need. The company now has three tiers of classification for kit – Ultimate, Standard and Value. These help users to choose what piece of kit would best suit their needs, and match it to the all-important cost. For example, the new black Ultimate Lighting Tower has a 270 hour run time that is 50% more than the previous spec machine. It is also easier to service and saves manpower in use. Morris has also gone ahead with the adoption of the Jefferson Range of tools

and products that are ancillaries in the hire industry, and is looking to bring out several new products in the range in the next 6 months. PLANTWORX dates for 2019 are already being pencilled in and if it’s June

again, no doubt we will have some weather to contend with – whether it be from the heavens due to Global warming or from Brussels and possibly incompetent negotiation. See you there!

Having given up making gensets a while ago Altrad-Belle responded to

demands from their users to return to the scene with a range of machines that included some innovations wanted by their customers. Simple things like stackability and a hook to aid lifting are fairly simple requests to comply with, but the improvements also included extra sockets and ‘green’ innovations to help users comply with regulations. An example of these green measures was the introduction of a Belle electric

plate compactor. This machine is ideal for use in poorly ventilated areas or indoors and where noise is a factor. Working at night, near a hospital? – No problem! The RPX range of reversible plate compactors is also a favourite with tight

fisted buyers. No need to buy a range of machines with different widths of compactor plates to suit different trench widths – simply change the compactor plate on a single machine and get back to work. With low hand arm vibration levels and built-in wheels for easy movement, they have already become favourites with users.
