letter from the publisher Eclipse wedding party:

Jannette & David, Bride Carol Jensen, Minister Margaret Jones Bertone & Groom Elder Jones

to move further from Earth. However, it doesn’t feel that way, especially after witnessing, with my very own eyes, the complete totality of the Eclipse. I also had the privilege of performing a wedding ceremony just after the viewing—that time in the Western North Carolina mountains left me awe-struck.

To keep these awesome feelings fl owing, I am committing to spend more time outdoors—especially with the cooler temperatures on the way. The article “Nature’s Classroom” (p.26) encourages all of us to experience the beauty that surrounds us daily. I especially like the Nature Journaling Tips. Give them a try! The day of the eclipse, was also my sister’s (Katie Lawless) 50th

Birthday.

This turning-point—into the later years—is exciting. She has decided to return to school and pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy. Want to age well? Author Deborah Shouse of the aging article (p.18) shares “The answer isn’t your 401k. Self-acceptance, a positive attitude, creative expression, purposeful living and spiritual connections all anchor successful and meaningful aging.” Many of my friends know I have a passion for textile art. Tomorrow I begin a one-week intensive class in wool preparation. Except for the actual shearing, I’ll be learning the age-old skills of combing, carding, natural dyeing and spinning into yarn for a completed knitted project. How will you age with passion and purpose? Aging well also involves eating well. Inspired by Dr. Daniel Thomas, I just

read The Plant Paradox by Dr. Steven Gundry—a must read, especially for vegetarians. Little did I know about natural (toxic) plant lectins, which can be harmful to your health. See the Should Not and Should Eat lists (pp.22-25). Finally, check out our calendar section (pp.30-35) and get out and explore your passion . You’ll be glad you did!

Happy Autumn Days ahead,

Margaret Jones Bertone, Publisher
