Health Briefs PRP Therapy for Skin Rejuvenation
A longtime favorite of athletes as a non- surgical recovery option, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is increasingly being embraced as a skin rejuvenation tool. Te minimally invasive process uses concentrated platelets from a
patient’s own blood to help repair and regenerate injured tissues. Once extracted from the patient, the blood is put through a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which are then re-injected into the patient’s area of injury, damage or concern. By stimulating collagen production, PRP injections can help
improve skin texture, tone and elasticity. Tis can result in a more youthful appearance and smoother skin. PRP therapy can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars, giving the skin a more even and radiant complexion. As we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen, leading to
sagging skin and wrinkles. PRP injections can help counteract this process by promoting collagen synthesis and improving skin firmness, all without the need for invasive procedures like surgery or chemical peels. PRP therapy is just one of the services offered at Family Integrative
Medicine, which specializes in regenerative medicine, harnessing the power of the body’s innate stem cells to help augment its ability to heal itself. Their holistic approach integrates regenerative treatments with
other non-surgical options for long-term illnesses and chronic conditions, including Functional Medicine, Oriental Medicine, and Chiropractic care. Let’s address the root causes, not just treat surface- level symptoms. To learn more about Family Integrative Medicine, call 407-584-4994, email

Cause of Lupus Discovered
Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue, damaging joints, skin, muscles, connective tissue and major organs such as the kidneys, brain and heart. According to the Lupus Foundation of America, an estimated 1.5 million Americans have lupus, with nine out of 10 being women. Researchers at Northwestern Medicine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston, say they have identified the root cause of lupus. In research reported in the journal Nature, the scientists identified a molecular defect that promotes the immune response in lupus, as well as a way to reprogram the lupus-causing cells to correct the imbalance in the immune response. Work continues to find a safe and effective way to deliver these molecules to the body for reprogramming.
