Feng Shui Made Easy

by Rhonda Rosa I

t’s interesting how things like colors, furniture placement and clutter can truly affect your environment. A room that is full of clutter can drain your energy. Yet a spacious hotel room with an ocean view can make you feel relaxed and serene. Whether you realize it or not, the principles of Feng Shui are always at work in your environment. Feng Shui provides a new perspective for viewing your life and the spaces where you live and work. It allows you to harness and use the energy in your surroundings to your best advantage, improving not just the aesthetics of your living space but also the feeling of your space. In its simplest form, Feng Shui is the practice of placing or arranging objects in your environment so that they are naturally supportive and pleasing to you. Feng Shui can help you create your own sacred space, a space that embraces you with comfort and harmony, improving the quality of your life by adjusting your living space to support your goals and aspirations. There is a great deal of confusion concerning which Feng Shui methods and “schools” to use. I hope this article will clarify the confusion. There are three (3) schools of Feng Shui: Form- Classical School, Compass School and Black Hat Sect School.

FORM SCHOOL is the oldest school of Feng Shui. It is based on the position of the topography of the land using trees, hills, mountains, rivers and lakes. The ideal position of your home here is with a mountain behind you, a river or lake in front of you with smaller hills along each side of your home to fully support and protect you. This school is very diffi cult to practice here in Florida as we have no mountains or hills in our topography. Florida is pretty fl at.

COMPASS SCHOOL is the most technical form. You need a compass with a magnetic needle called a LO Pan to pinpoint exact electromagnetic locations of auspicious and inauspicious areas of your home. It is very exact and includes other schools such as Flying Stars, Eight Mansions, and Four Pillars. If you are going to use this school, be aware that you may get different compass reading at your home because of steel structure beams, underground power lines or cars parked in front of your home. Your appliances (such as the refrigerator or your computer) can also effect the electromagnetic fi elds in your environment.

CONTEMPORARY FENG SHUI (also known as Black Hat Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui or BTB) – is what is used mostly in the United States. As a hybrid practical version created by Professor Lin Yun and brought to the United States in the mid 1980s, this school does not use any compass directions. It is based on the orientation of the front door of your home and, therefore, the easiest to use. The front door orientation is found by using a Bagua map that is divided into 9 life areas. The 9 life areas are: skills and knowledge, career, helpful people and travel, family, health, creativity and children, abundance, fame and reputation and love and relationships.

ENTRANCE QUADRANTS (3 Door Method)

The front door is always aligned within one of the fi rst three sectors at the bottom of the Bagua. It never changes and that is what makes this the easiest form of Feng Shui to use. To end your confusion with Feng Shui, you need to choose

one school of Feng Shui and stick with that one school. It is very diffi cult to try and combine all three which makes it confusing. A harmonious home is a healthy home.
