WOMAD’s artistic director Paula Henderson
says, “Camille is a personal favourite and I have invited her to perform at WOMAD for at least 10 years, possibly more. But this year the timing was right and this award-winning singer and celebrated international artist is definitely one to watch at the festival. We invited La Dame Blanche to perform last year, but, due to visa difficulties she was unable to come. Not giving up, we presented them at WOMAD Las Palmas and her explosive performance of hip hop, cumbia, dancehall and reggae made her the star of the show. And Talisk were an absolute must-book. Seeing them on a small stage in Poland, their musicality and stage presence was mesmerising . Originally they were due to be touring overseas but there was a change of plan and we quickly snapped them up.” fRoots tip to watch: Mélissa Laveaux. womad.co.uk
