CLIMATIC & VIBRATION TESTING: THERMAL MANAGEMENT

❱❱ The touch-safe LTS 064 loop enclosure heater has an output of 20- 40W, left; while the LPS 164 loop enclosure heater has a higher output than the touch safe model, below

gives it its name – the loop – based on its shape with similarities to a figure-of-eight. This profile is extremely efficient at absorbing the heat from the PTC heating elements, meaning that users benefit from improved, uniform heat transmission inside their control cabinet.

produced a total of five heater series ranging in power from 10W to 150W for thermal management applications. Certified safety when exposed to shocks and vibrations enables the heaters to be used for a wider range of applications, while pressure clamps help to reduce installation time. Enclosure heaters have a range of applications including the prevention of condensation in control cabinets. Heating air inside the cabinet avoids temperature fluctuations and maintains relative humidity, thus protecting electric and electronic components against humidity as

hermal management specialist Stego has redesigned its enclosure heaters with an innovative, loop-style heating body. The company has

it condenses, preventing short-circuits. Having produced such heaters for some time, Stego is now supplying its enclosure heater with a completely new heating body: the loop heater. Five series featuring the new body are being launched including the LPS 164 and LTS 064 series, which are based on the compact loop profile and deliver a heating power of between 10W and 50W, while the larger loop profile in the LT 065, LTF 065 and LP 165 series gives them a heating capacity of 50W to 150W.

THE LOOP PROFILE The most striking product and design feature of the compact convection heaters is the innovative aluminium profile strip that forms part of its heating body and, in fact,

they can be attached quickly to their 35mm DIN rail. Pressure clamp connection reduces installation time by up to 50 per cent. Cables with rigid wire and ferrules can be connected quickly and without any tools. The clamps exert constant pressure on the cables, which provides added security when transporting pre-assembled control cabinets, for example. There is therefore never a need to worry about the connecting cables coming loose during operation. The LTF 065 loop heater series with integrated tamper-proof thermostat offers additional potential for savings as there is no need to have a separate thermostat for control purposes. The LTS 064, LT 065 and LTF 065 series are designed to be touch-safe. Their light-grey, insulated plastic housings keep the surface temperature below 80°C, thus protecting maintenance and operating personnel from burns in the event of accidental contact. Stego products are approved and safety certified independently by testing bodies such as VDE, UL and EAC.

SHOCK- AND VIBRATION-PROOF The loop heaters are shock- and vibration-proof with associated

approvals. The loop profile allows the heater to be assembled in a completely new way: rather than being pressed together, the heating body and heating element are firmly interlocked by the spring action exerted by the loop profile. The elastic property of the aluminium

profile is used to maintain a strong force on the heating elements at all times, even in the event of temperature cycles during operation, and to ensure constant heating power throughout the heater’s service life. This approach means that all touch-safe loop heaters have been successfully tested for shock and vibration resistance in accordance with the standards DIN EN 60068-2-27:2010-02 and DIN EN 60068- 2-64:2009-04 in relation to the standard DIN EN IEC 61373:2011-04, cat. 1 B. This also makes them demonstrably suitable for situations exposing them to a strong vibration impact in environments such as rail and mobile applications or wind power. T&TH
