High-efficiency medium force vibration tester
To help high-volume users of vibration test systems at automotive companies and test houses cope with increasing demand for high levels of vibration and shock testing while keeping expenses down to a minimum, Hottinger Bruel & Kjær (HBK) has created its new medium-force, air- cooled LDS V8800 shaker system. According to HBK, this new piece of test equipment provides a comprehensive and reliable approach with everything that is needed for accurate and high-performance vibration tests, along with an efficiency that goes far beyond saving time.
MEDIUM FORCE SYSTEM The LDS V8800 series shaker system was developed for use in a variety of R&D, testing and production scenarios, such as component and subsystem durability tests, general load testing or product qualification and packaging testing within the automotive, aerospace and defence, transport and packaging industries. It is suitable for high-acceleration shock tests and has an internal load support capability of 700kg. It can be used in-house by companies that perform frequent product or development tests or is ideal for being deployed in test houses where its flexibility enables it to be used across a variety of applications and product sizes. The system features a maintenance-free
inductive centring system (ICS), leading to increased reliability due to being unaffected by unfavourable environmental conditions such as dust or heat. The cool and quiet modes, which
automatically adjust system settings to reduce the energy consumption required for a test, or, if possible, operate the shaker without a fan, save costs and reduce the noise associated with standard tests.

reaches new heights with its fuel cell truck
crossed the Brenner Pass with the fuel-cell articulated lorry carrying a typical load on the 120km highway stretch between Bolzano and Innsbruck. Throughout the test, the only emission was water vapour. The city of Bolzano in Italy, served as the base for the test drives, as it hosts a hydrogen filling station operated by H2 South Tyrol. Moreover, the topography of the surrounding area is ideal for thorough performance tests of the fuel-cell system at various altitudes. One of the highlights of the tests was driving the tractor unit up the Penser Joch Mountain to an altitude of 2,211m. The findings of this first altitude test programme with regards to the interaction of fuel cell and battery in
demanding topography, as well as the forward-looking operating strategy on the Brenner route, are now being incorporated into the further development towards the
series vehicle. More test drives in mountainous terrain are planned for the coming year.
On its path towards a CO2-neutral future, Daimler Truck has clearly set its
strategic course and is consistently pursuing a dual-track strategy in the electrification of its portfolio with both battery-electric and hydrogen-based drives. The Mercedes-Benz GenH2 truck is being developed particularly for flexible and demanding applications in the important segment of heavy-duty transport and long- haul applications. The development goal is a range of 1,000km and more. Start of series production is planned for the second half of the decade.
