Powerhouse Developments Peter and Gavin gave a fascinating presentation about the Afan Valley Adventure Resort, which will combine the appeal of Center Parcs with an adrenaline-filled active lifestyle resort in 480 acres in Wales. Managed by Landal and with partners including the Bear Grylls Survival Academy, Newman Aqua and Snowflex, the resort promises to be a spectacular addition to Welsh tourism.

Mark and Andy’s session about the growth of Obstacle Course Racing gave delegates ideas and practical advice about how they could run these events and attract a new audience, particularly the young, old and the inactive, to their facilities.


• Olly Monk, Concrete Waves Olly’s account of the lessons learned in developing Newquay’s Concrete Waves skatepark, hailed as one of


the best skateparks in Europe, was refreshingly frank and demonstrated how to engage difficult to reach groups in the community.

• John Walker, architect, Walker Simpson Architects & Locklynne Hall,


business director, LiveWire John and Locklynne’s thought-provoking session on the new Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub showed how we can support an ageing population through dementia-friendly facilities. The development aims to be the first project to receive the University of Stirling’s Gold Accreditation for a Dementia-Inclusive Public Building.


• Irina Korneychuk, project leader, Faulkner Browns & Paul Tilley, head of sport, University


of Portsmouth Irina and Paul talked about the University of Portsmouth’s new sport facility, the design of which incorporates the principles of active design to inspire greater participation in physical activity.


• Justin O’Brien, regional director, Space & Place Architects & Stuart Manifould, head of


business development and operations, Cheshire FA


In their session, Justin and Stuart showcased the pioneering Vision 2020, the new Centre of Excellence for elite women and girl’s football and a unique development in women’s football in the UK.


• Matthew Wade, senior researcher, ukactive Matthew provided valuable insight into some of the latest research


conducted by ukactive Research Institute to help delegates understand key sector trends in the public sector as well as the role of physical activity in the health, wellbeing and prospects of students.


• Nicky Roche, Director of Strategy, Sporting Assets In her session, Nicky talked about Sporting Capital, a sports specific


fund which provides loans to help deliver social impact and drive the sutainability of organisations. She also highlighted projects which have benefited from the fund.
