In order to deliver assurance, we are going to have to work together across the supply chain; cyber security, physical security, OEM and systems integrator. The UK is well‐positioned to be a world leader in delivering trusted maritime systems. We have a leading supplier base of cutting‐edge maritime technologies, with a large global install base. We are consistently cited in the top five countries with the most developed cyber capabilities. We maintain world‐ class systems safety engineering talent and capabilities. Our universities are driving advanced research on maritime digitalisation, automation and autonomy.


At CyberOwl, we have begun this journey. We are working on a pilot with a bridge systems manufacturer to improve the cyber‐physical resilience of navigation systems. This is designed to identify and provide early warning of suspicious behaviour relating to potential exploitation of known and unknown cyber vulnerabilities inherent within these systems. Our vision is to systematically make our way across the highest risk vessel systems, the ones that particular impact the vessel’s ability to operate its critical services, keep its crew safe and ultimate drive economic value for the fleet operator. It is likely we will focus on power management systems and cargo systems next. And we will do the same with shore‐side systems on ports, initially focusing on physical access, shoreside plant systems and cargo systems.
