Cardiff University Scientist wins prestigious Award

Organic UK is set to feed Cardiff ’s happy with free organic taster breakfasts during its 2019 #WakeUpToOrganic event To spread the ‘feel-good’ factor of organic food far and wide, Organic UK is inviting people up and down the nation to ‘Wake Up to Organic’ and celebrate with a free organic mini breakfast.

Dr Rebecca Melen has been named winner of the prestigious Harrison- Meldola Memorial Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry. Dr Melen, of Cardiff University, has won the award for outstanding contributions to the advancements in main-group Lewis acid mediated transformations.


Receiving the award, Dr Melen said: “I am really thrilled to have been selected as a winner of the Harrison- Meldola Memorial Prize. It is a great honour to know that my work on main group Lewis acid mediated transformations has been recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry. This Prize will undoubtedly


elevate my profi le and also that of main group chemistry which will enable my research and I


to gain broader


recognition within the wider chemistry and scientifi c communities.” Dr Melen was born in Nottingham and now lives in Cardiff . In winning the award, Dr Melen also receives £5,000 and a medal.


On 12 June 2019, independent businesses in Cardiff will be throwing open their doors for ‘Wake Up To Organic’, helping to spread the joy of organic food and encouraging people to feed their happy! Up to 300 events across the country – in partnership with local cafes, delis, farm shops and independent stores – will celebrate organic food, showing just how easy it is to make the switch. organic breakfast treats,


select stores will be taking their Wake Up to Organic events to the next level, off ering a range of special activities – from cooking demonstrations to the opportunity to meet local farmers and producers.
