Housebuilder pledges support to Tenovus Cancer Care in South Wales

Tenovus Cancer Care in South Wales has been given a £1,000 boost as one of the first recipients of a new community initiative in the area. Te charity has received £1,000 from the Barratt and David Wilson Homes Community Fund which donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region. Te community fund has been set up as part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes. Tis donation will be used to support the Mobile Cancer Support Units which treat patients closer to home, and regional

fundraising manager

Alexandra Smith said the donation would help support cancer patients in the local community. She said that having treatment on board a mobile unit is completely different to going to hospital. “It’s less overwhelming, less stressful and altogether quieter,” she said. “Our small team means patients see the same reassuring faces each time and we can tell patients about other

ways Tenovus Cancer Care can support them, practically, emotionally and financially.” Steve Williams, managing director of Barratt Homes in South Wales, said: “Being able to support charities like this is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. As the country’s largest housebuilder we are committed to creating a positive legacy and work closely with local communities. “Tenovus Cancer Care provides such an important service to cancer patients and we are pleased to be able to support its mobile units.” In South Wales Barratt also supports Welsh children’s cancer charity LATCH and last year the company also supported grass roots cycling in South Wales and the Kids Out charity. Tis year it has already donated £1,000 to 1st Dinas Powys Scout Group and is inviting other groups and charities in South Wales to apply for a grant. Organisations can apply for one of the monthly grants by emailing bdwswcommfund@
