Puppy vi sit proves a hit for hous ebuilders

A Cardiff housebuilder had a four-legged visitor as Wilson the guide dog puppy made an appearance at its headquarters. David Wilson Homes has sponsored a guide dog puppy as part of its long-running support of Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Staff got to meet the five-month-old Golden Retriever that they are helping to put through training to become a fully- fledged guide dog. Wilson melted hearts as he toured the company’s headquarters with Peter Tomas from the charity. Among those he visited were David Wilson Homes’ land director, who owns an ex-guide dog himself, and the housebuilder’s sales director, Richard Lawson.

Richard said: “Our symbol is a Golden Retriever so we have always felt a very strong connection with the Guide Dogs charity. We’ve sponsored several puppies over the years and having met Wilson, we think he’s got what it takes to make a fantastic guide dog. We’ll be keeping a close eye on his training over the coming weeks.” Frank Greig, Community Fundraising Development Officer, Guide Dogs Cymru, added: “Our charity relies on the generous donations of individuals and businesses like David Wilson Homes to carry out its important work. We’re incredibly grateful to the company for its support, which will be instrumental in seeing Wilson through his training.”

David Wilson Homes, which is bringing new homes to Cowbridge, Bridgend and Penarth, has a strong affiliation with the Guide Dogs having first sponsored a puppy more than 20 years ago. Wilson was part of a litter of 10 puppies. He will receive informal training from puppy walking volunteer Beryl Handford in South Wales until he is 12-14 months old, when his formal guide dog training will start. Learning these skills takes at least four months. During this time, his trainer will assess his speed and temperament in order to match him with the right owner.
