Last chance to buy at Maelfa site

Time is running out for house hunters to secure a property at a popular development in Cardiff, where just 13 homes are left on the market. Persimmon Homes East Wales is building 57 two and three bedroom homes at Eastside Quarter on the former site of Maelfa shopping centre in Llanedeyrn. The development was launched a year ago to the month – and now the builder has just over a dozen properties left to sell. Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “Eastside Quarter has been very successful and we are now in the final throes of the development. “Dozens of people have already moved in and are enjoying their new homes in this completely regenerated area. “Those people interested in moving to Eastside Quarter will have to act fast as it won’t be long before the last house has been reserved and the diggers roll out of the site for the final time. “We still have two and three bedroom properties to sell, with prices starting at £154,995. These would be ideal for first-time buyers or families.” The former shopping centre site is being completely rejuvenated with houses, retail units and a new public square in a project between Persimmon, Cardiff Community Housing Association and Cardiff Council. Most of the retail outlets lay empty for some time before the regeneration project began. There are initiatives available to help house hunters secure their dream move, including the popular Help to Buy – Wales scheme. Victoria said that more than 50 per cent of people buying with Persimmon this year have used the initiative, which makes it possible to buy a new-build house with just a five per cent deposit. With Help to Buy, the Welsh Government provides an equity loan of up to 20 per cent, leaving a mortgage of just 75 per cent. Persimmon is also currently building more than 1,000 homes at its St Edeyrns Village development off Junction 30 of the M4. Demand has also been sky high at that development, Persimmon said.
