2017 saw the start of a new mission for wildlife in Cardiff as The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales launched their ‘My Wild Cardiff ’ project. With the help of some lovely locals we have created 12 new bug hotels in Canton, built Cardiff ’s fi rst ever pop-up wildlife garden in Bute Park, gave 3 wildlife gardening talks, taught 15 learning providers about bringing nature into schools and had 3 schools visit to our nature reserves! PARENTS REVEAL BEST HIDING PLACES

FOR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS New research by Space Station has revealed that the top of the wardrobe is the best place to hide Christmas presents from children. The storage experts surveyed 1,000 UK residents* to fi nd out more about the lengths they go to hide presents from their children over the Christmas period, with over a quarter (27%) admitting to hiding their presents on top of the wardrobe, and 23% stashing them in the spare room. Other popular hiding places include under the bed (22%), inside a chest of drawers (15%), and the loft (14%), while 8% of those surveyed admitted to storing them in a relative’s house until the big day.

47% admitting their children have discovered presents before 25th December. The top fi ve worst cities at hiding presents are: 1. Swansea (57%) 2. Cardiff (50%) 3. Leeds (47%) 4. Newcastle (38%) 5. Nearly two thirds (62%) of parents helped their offspring write letters to Santa, while around a third (30%) went the extra mile and wrote a letter to their children from St Nick. 73% of parents admitted they leave a mince pie out before going to bed on Christmas Eve, showing Christmas spirit is still alive. Commenting on the fi ndings, Vlatka Lake, Marketing Manager at Space Station said: “For many children around the country, Christmas is a very exciting time of year, particularly when it comes to presents. We hope our top ten list will help inspire parents who have struggled to keep their children’s gifts a surprise until the big day in the past, and make Christmas day extra special!” For tips on how to make extra room this Christmas, visit https://www. space-station.co.uk/blog/making- room-for-christmas.
