Lucy said: “That night, the team had already been to London and on their return to Cardiff were they required to attend Bristol for a second retrieval within 24 hours.


“Mr Doruk Elker and Dr Tarique Sabah (Retrieval and Transplant Surgeons) and Ruth Lloyd (Scrub Practitioner) were amazing, they had been out all night, working straight through both cases and were brilliant, an absolute pleasure to work with.


NORS Team receiving their Award from Lisa Morgan, Senior Nurse in Nephrology and Transplant at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.


Cardiff’s National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS) team has been awarded NHS Blood and Transplant ‘Team of the Month’.


The NORS team provide a 24 hour on call service for 15 weeks of the year and are responsible for


the retrieval of organs from deceased donors for the purposes of transplantation. When the team are on call they can be mobilised to anywhere in the UK and often work extended hours. The team has been


awarded NHS Blood and Transplant ‘Team of the Month’ after being nominated by Lucy Barnes, Specialist Nurse - Organ Donation (SNOD).


Lucy commended the team on their professionalism and


“The whole team are great and I’m always pleased when the Cardiff NORS team attend a retrieval, but these guys were exceptional on this occasion.


“The whole team are pivotal to the transplant programme not just in Wales but throughout the UK.”


Who can apply to become a Foster Carer?

• Be male or female. • Be single, married, divorced, widowed or living with a partner.


Who can apply to become a Foster Carer ?


• Own your own home, or rent, however your accommodation needs to be stable.


• Have a disability. • Be employed, unemployed or retired. • Be heterosexual or in a same sex relationship.


• Be a parent, step parent, single parent or you may never have had children of your own.


AGE: There is no upper age limit but you do have to be over 21 years of age and be in good general health.
