range of apprenticeship opportunities available across the organisations, from aeronautical engineering and accounting to digital and technology skills. Becky Wakins, Dwr Cymru said: “For us, it’s important to get into schools to make sure we are bridging the gap between employment and education, particularly in such a bespoke industry as our own. There’s no other industry like ours, and we need to attract and employ people who are passionate and willing to learn, and we’ve seen that apprentices are just this.” Charlie Player, 15 from Thornhil who took part in the workshops said: “I was initially looking at going to university, but after learning more

in today’s workshop, I’d defi nitely consider doing an apprenticeship. I didn’t know you could do a degree alongside an apprenticeship either, and so that would be something I would be interested in learning more about.” Rob Bloor, Head of Year 10 at Llanishen High said: “It’s really important to inform the kids about the alternative routes into employment. It’s always been about GCSE’s results and then moving onto A Levels, but that isn’t always the path for everybody and it doesn’t suit every single child. The more we can open their eyes and show them that there’s a great deal of things you can achieve out there without

going down

this traditional academic route the better.”
