To celebrate Welshman Geraint Tomas’ historic first win of Le Tour de France, the principality’s leading housebuilder is giving everyone who reserves a new home on its developments in South Wales throughout August, a voucher towards the purchase of a new bike. Te 32-year-old, from Cardiff, joins fellow Team Sky members Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome on the roll call of British winners of the yellow jersey. Barratt South Wales, which is building at a number of sites in South Wales including Gorseinon in Swansea, Morgan’s Meadow in Bridgend, and Maes Y Deri in Cardiff, has a long history of supporting cycling at grass roots level. Currently

it’s working with

Cycle Training Wales on a programme of events and initiatives Tey’re aimed at encouraging more children to

take up cycling, cycle safely and even be inspired to take up cycling as a sport. Te developer is also working with Cycle Training Wales to run National Standard cycling courses to enable children to take full advantage of cycle routes which

run close to its developments. Andrew Burns from Cycle Training Wales said the support of Barratt Homes means it can provide servicing and cycle training at a number of schools in South Wales. “It’s great to see a company like

Barratt give such great support to grass roots cycling and we hope that our courses will mean cycling becomes a way of life for these children,” said Andrew. “Now Geraint’s triumph will take interest

to a whole new level,” predicts Barratt Homes

sales director Richard Lawson, who said: “His amazing victory is an inspiration to us all, none more so than youngsters who will see him as an iconic role model. With that in mind we want to use this opportunity to celebrate Geraint’s victory by encouraging as many people as possible to take up this fantastic pastime and sport. So, we’re offering a £150 voucher to be presented on completion of a property purchase towards a new bike. Te full details are available on our website.” Meanwhile, the OVO Energy Tour of Britain is set to spend a day in South Wales this year with a start on Saturday September 2 at Pembrey Park before heading east through the Brecon Beacons and a finish in Newport.
