Sword & Trowel 2019: Issue 1
restricting hand and society erupts into what the fl esh really wants to do, choosing materialism, the coars- est of entertainment, sexual liberty and unbelief. But it is all recorded for the last day, and in the meantime the gates of hell will not prevail against the work of Christ, calling out and saving his people. Then the ran- somed will be brought in from every land and nation, and the victory of the church will be wonderful beyond all imagination. In a war, there are casualties on
both sides, but in the war between rebellious humanity and the church of Christ there will be no casual- ties on the side of the church. Every
true saint, however lowly, however uneducated, however disadvantaged, however vulnerable, or however young will be brought safely home. It is trivial to say this, but some Olympic records stand for years, decades even, before they are fi nally broken. But the victory of the people of God and the church of Christ will last for ever. We should never feel overwhelmed by human rebellion, but while being fi lled with sympathy and zeal for lost souls, we should expect to be the children of the little fl ock in any given period. We re- member that all the hostility against us only magnifi es the power and the grace of Christ in saving individuals.
TAMIL HYMNBOOK UPDATE T
he Tamil hymnbook launched in November 2017 has been well received by churches in Tamil Nadu, South India. 1000 hardback copies of the bilingual words edition have recently been printed in Sri Lanka for the many reformed churches there. (Photo below: Sri Lankan pastors.) The challenge, especially in Sri Lanka, is to teach these hymns to congregations who have no keyboard or musician, and so introduce the riches of hymnody into their worship.
A mobile phone app of the bilingual book with music was produced in Febru- ary 2018 with this in mind, and audio CDs have also been made of all the hymns for distribu- tion to the churches.
