EXECUTIVE HIRE SHOW REVIEW continued

Martyn Birch (right) of Didcot Plant with Thwaites MD Ian Brown The Show always gives hirers the opportunity to have face-to-face

contact with many of the suppliers you deal with, either on a regular or on-off basis during the year. I always head for the Thwaites stand as Didcot Plant has had a long-standing relationship with them and their products for nearly three decades. Thwaites dumpers tick all the boxes when it comes to product supply, reliability, quality and price. The visit also gave me the chance to view several other items which we will be adding to our fleet, including equipment from Lyte, Addex and Radiodetection.

Ben Jones, left, with Fairport’s Steve Watkinson We placed a significant order at the Show with Fairport for ten hydraulic

breakers and six floors saws. We source virtually all our compaction plates, pokers, power trowels and other concreting equipment from the company, with which we have a long-established trading relationship. It is one of our preferred suppliers and we like dealing with them because you can always get to speak to the right people and get the information you need.

Darren, left, and Ryan Miles from Miles Hire The Show was an ideal opportunity to speak to suppliers, see new

products and make contacts for the opening of our new depot in Cardiff soon. It was a great atmosphere for chatting and having discussions, with plenty of special deals, and we placed orders there and then. Altrad Belle impressed with its new generators, the Bulldog hydraulic pack

incorporating a smaller frame and a cage for the breaker, and we also bought two compaction plates. Other purchases included a wash bay from Trime for the Cardiff depot, petrol grinders from Seddons and a new petrol pressure washer from Demon. We were also very interested in one of the new software products from Point of Rental, and we have been in contact with the company since. The Executive Hire Show is a must for any hire business.

Mike, left, and James O’Donnell, Kellaway Hire Services We found some great deals at this year’s Show and we

purchased new material lifts from Safety Lifting Gear, plastering equipment from DART, and a battery powered hoist and water pressure bottle from Makinex. It was great to see Hilti’s latest launches, including the new

TE 2000 breaker, . We also had a good look at JCB’s new hydrostatic dumper range and, as we run a range of Kubota mini excavators, it was good to visit the company’s stand to see the new KX030-4 3-tonne excavator. It was also useful to have the CPA and HAE there to get answers on a range of topics.

We caught up with Jan Looijenga, left, of Guernsey-based Project Hire and Sale on the Chicago Pneumatic stand.

“ We had a very good Show again this year. We spoke to

lots of our suppliers and noticed some new exhibitors, too. We asked for quotations on Ammann compactors, a mini excavator and a Cormidi hi-tip self-loading tracked dumper from A&Y Equipment. We also purchased two Camon C8 rotavators from Tracmaster, along with a C10 rotavator with a flail mower attachment. And from Altrad-Belle, we bought more mixers, generators and Warrior wheelbarrows.

17 ” It was a great Show and very

well organised and attended. It was good to catch up with old friends and make new contacts in the hire industry, all under one roof. I particularly enjoyed the range of products on display this year from both the regular exhibitors and new suppliers to the market, with some really great new items on show. As well as calling into the Russon Access stand, we placed orders for two Eliet Major green waste shredders and four cultivators from PSD Groundscare (Ready4Rent), and 12 Sumner material lifts.
