A Christmas message

The new year will see fresh technological options and other new opportunities to participate

Laurie Beagle Managing director, Forums International lauriebeagle@forumsinternational.co.uk

I would like to start by wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a Successful New Year. Also, thanks for all your support during the last 12 months. How is it, when you get older, the months seem to fly by quicker? It does not seem long since we were all sweltering in the unusual heat over the summer. The question is: have you had a good

year? We have probably had the busiest year to date and the most fulfilling. We have continued to deliver the forums in the UK, Europe and, for the first time, in Canada: 39 meeting days. We have been supported by a stellar set of corporate partners and, most importantly, we have maintained our membership base and, in fact, it has grown. Enough of looking back, what do we do

next year? Firstly, we have already booked the main forum dates and venues right through to December 2019. In fact, we have already sorted the agendas

for January and February, so watch out on social media for details. Next year will be a year of two halves. The first being to consolidate the current forum portfolio and to ensure we continue to grow and deliver a consistent level of benefit to our members. In the second, we are bringing in some exciting new things. In 2018 we held an Amazon Suppliers Forum Day. By popular demand we will hold a second meeting later in the year. To go with that we have planned ‘One Day’ Forums on specific subjects: credit cards, which will meet in March in London, and a supermarkets and retail day later in the year. There will also be a new B2B Anti-Fraud Forum focusing on

providing solutions, tools and techniques, sharing experiences and providing a support network for when you are attacked. We are also extending our Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Forum to include manufacturing. Currently the focus is on wholesale and the NHS. This will extend to companies located across Europe. We have been invited to hold an IT Distributors Forum in Sofia, Bulgaria and, finally, we are planning to re-energise our connections with the ICT sector. We have held four webinars with our corporate partners. These

will continue, starting on 22 January, then there will be two per month on going. Past webinars can be found on our website.

When we held a Telecoms Forum meeting

in Montreal in September all our members were not able to travel, mostly due to budget constraints. So, for the first time, members joined and took part via Skype. Then, when we then held our Business &

Office Supplies Forum meeting at Experian, Nottingham in November we had members join the meeting from Cluj in Romania. These were test cases, but in both instances it worked well. We have now refined the technology, so will be offering virtual forum access to selected forums in the new year. Finally. By popular demand we are

bringing back the Forums International Golf Tournament. As before, not all our members and supporters are golfers, so there will also be an alternative Archery & Clay Pigeon Tournament at the same time. The date is the 15 May at Whittlebury Hall Golf Club. This will be a charity event, with donations going to Diabetes UK. The day’s events will be followed by an awards dinner and overnight accommodation is available. Watch out for announcements on these and other new initiatives on social media.
