£38m schools contracts for offsite contractor

FFSITE building specialist Caledonian has secured two large school projects with a total order value of £38m - Haygrove School in Essex and The Sir Frederick Gibberd College in Somerset. Caledonian undertakes the role as Lead Designer and Principal Contractor, delivering projects from feasibility, through design and planning with its design partner HLM Architects. Caledonian will create a brand new £29m secondary school at the Sir Frederick Gibberd College at the site of the former Passmore School in Harlow, Essex. The three-storey building will consist of classrooms, double-height hall and studio spaces, offices, kitchen and associated rooms for educational purposes, along with
enabling, groundwork’s and external works. Richmond upon Thames College extends campus with five-storey teaching block

SG has awarded REL Building Services the M&E contract for a £34 million project at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC).
The contract follows extensive design work carried out by REL during the pre- construction stage of the scheme. It will see the M&E contractor install an extensive range of services throughout a new five-storey teaching block, which spans around 161,000 sq ft and is targeted to achieve a ‘BREEAM excellent’ rating. A raft of facilities will be incorporated into the space including business incubation space, a 160-seat theatre, art
gallery, restaurant, spa and wellness centre as well as advanced learning environments, featuring TV studios, a 3D prototyping fabrication laboratory and a digital golf studio.
Located at the college’s Twickenham campus, the scheme is the latest to be awarded via the Pagabo framework, which drives efficiencies and best value across public sector procurement.

East Lothian builds new primary school M
ORRISON Construction is building a new primary school at the heart of a major housing development in Haddington, East Lothian. More than 800 homes are being built at Letham Mains and the school, provisionally named Letham Primary School, will be built toward the north of the site. The £8.6m school building due for completion in summer 2020, will be over two storeys and have 14 classrooms suitable for pre-school and primary teaching, a dining hall, social space and a two court PE hall with retractable seating for performance and community use.
