Formica helps school make the grade for sustainable design During the construction of Lillmunkens Förskola preschool in Munkfors, Sweden, great importance was given to the build’s environmental and sustainability credentials. Environmentally friendly and non-toxic materials were used for both the building, including the exterior cladding, and the permanent furnishings and furniture.
VIVIX® by Formica Group was specified by KLARA Architects as part of the façade to complement the wood panelling. The panels were also used in the areas subject to high wear and tear such as the entrances, stairs and storage spaces. They help optimise the school's heat and energy efficiency, and in doing so facilitate the work of green building technology.

Metro Rod – much more than a drainage service Many people think Metro Rod simply unblocks drains, but there is actually so much more to it. As well as the day-to-day drainage and gutter clearance, which are completed on both a reactive and PPM basis, the company also provides many other services which involve specialist equipment and professional training. This can include completing CCTV surveys of entire drainage systems to check for any damage which would require repair, high- pressure jetting to clear more extensive blockages, and tanker services to clear localised flooding.
The company’s team of engineers, tankers and vans are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Acoustic solutions from Knauf AMF help Scottish family centre
At the new Arthurlie Family Centre in East Renfrewshire, a mixture of acoustic ceilings and ceiling rafts from Knauf AMF were specified throughout to help create a visually appealing and comfortable auditory environment.
East Renfrewshire Council Senior Architect Marie Mullen explains why: “Lining the roof soffit with hard plasterboard would have produced unpleasant echos, so I specified square shaped AMF Topiq Sonic ceiling rafts to improve the acoustics. Either side of the entrance porch are two informal meeting areas where circular shaped AMF Topiq Sonic rafts are suspended on long wires to create an intimate feel and provide acoustic privacy.”

Eliminating draughts with smart ventilation
SAV’s AirMaster Smart Ventilation Units incorporate key design features to tackle the common problem of draughts from ventilation systems in classrooms and other workplaces. These include close control of inlet air temperature and exploitation of the Coanda effect to ensure comfortable conditions in the occupied zone.
As such, they provide simultaneous control of air velocity and incoming air temperature, factors known to create uncomfortable draughts, whilst ensuring effective management of indoor air quality and efficient demand-controlled ventilation - something that traditional ventilation controls are unable to do. Smart control of inlet temperature by AirMaster SVUs is achieved automatically by using fan differential speed.

It features a detailed cost-analysis of a typical window/door configuration for a classroom screen, to provide cost- comparison data for architects, specifiers, builders, and cost consultants.
The brochure also details the added benefits of installing VELFAC – from improved indoor climate provided by different ventilation strategies, to low maintenance design provided by external aluminium frames and an expected operational lifetime of over 40 years, backed by a 12-year warranty. VELFAC also provides a range of specification services, including free cost consultancy.
