achieved the highest levels of client satisfaction, met 99% of the specified success criteria, exceeded 23% of its targets, and was delivered 6.5% below the investment target of £11.685m. Demonstrating high levels of client
satisfaction, executive director of estates and capital projects for Dudley College, Steve Johnson said, “Advance II is a leading edge example of industry standards which inspires learners and employers wanting to develop their skills. “Opening Advance II has paved the way
criteria on Advance II were the client’s desires for the end result to be an “exemplary quality facility with an inspiring learning environment”, to achieve an EPC “A” rating and “for ‘leading edge’ practices to be adopted by all involved in design delivery and operation” – all of which were successfully met. Months on from the project’s completion
and having been fully functional since the autumn term of 2017, Advance II has
for the extension of Dudley College’s apprenticeship provision with around 130 apprentices studying the new technologies in Advance II. By opening up these new apprenticeships we are able to provide skills training for the industry that otherwise would not be available in the region. “The close working relationship
between Dudley College and the project team has created a project which is absolutely fit for our purpose. A complete learning environment.” But how much of the project’s
success can be put down to the use of the IPI model?

Speller Metcalfe Technical Director, Adrian Speller said: “Throughout the project at Advance II, Speller Metcalfe saw first-hand the benefits of using the IPI model and the strong culture of collaboration and shared responsibility that was engendered in the team.
“The construction of Advance II was a hotbed of innovation and is a shining example of how construction should be delivered.
“It is evidence that a delivery team can adopt a wholly collaborative working method, resulting in improved performance that not only delivers on, but exceeds the client’s success criteria.
The project provides a real legacy, not only in providing an excellent facility to foster the next generation of the construction workforce, but also in being a catalyst to change the practices of the wider industry.”
