REL appointed for £2m school contract

of a multi-million-pound regeneration project in Dulwich, south London. The Charter School East Dulwich will be

R

located on a site previously occupied by the East Dulwich Community Hospital and accommodate up to 1,680 pupils aged 11 to 19 and more than 180 teachers and support staff. A new community health centre is also planned on the same land. Designed by FCB Studios, the school

will comprise a teaching block with specialist facilities designed for the study of subjects such as science, design technology, art and design and physical education to A-level. There will also be a sports hall and multi-use games areas. REL will be responsible for all the

electrical works including mains distribution, data, fire alarms, CCTV, and access. The project will need to be delivered within 10 months, ready for

handover in August 2018 before the start of the school year. Toby Buckley, REL’s managing director

said: “This is a large electrical contract which needs to be delivered within a tight timeframe. This will be achieved by working in close collaboration with the wider project team and from a much earlier stage to help streamline processes and the wider construction

programme. This early engagement will ensure that any potential issues are ironed out from the outset, so that we can work more productively as the job progresses.”
