Let them know it’s Christmas A
s many of us are working from home, why not bring the party to the people?
Total Merchandise has launched a party in a box to recognise the fact that festivities this year are going to be a bit different. Large social gatherings may be out of fashion at the minute, but showing you are thinking of people never is. Showing your hard-working team members or long-serving customers that you appreciate their loyalty is a little gesture that can go a long away in the current climate, where the smallest acts of kindness or thoughtfulness have added resonance.
The mailable virtual Christmas party boxes have been created to allow teams to enjoy an end-of-year celebration, from the safety and comfort of your own homes. They can even be delivered to individual home addresses.
Inside each branded box, the goodies include a logoed Christmas hat; photo booth props for selfies; a mini bottle of Prosecco; a large bar of chocolate, and a Christmas card. That should get the party started. Just crank up the Zoom and let festivities commence.
Traditional thank yous For the more traditional thank you, hampers are the way forward, and Hays Hampers is a specialist. During the lockdown, the company has actually reported its best ever financial year with 100,000 hampers sent globally. After introducing the first sustainable Christmas hamper into the British market in 2016, the company has gone to the next level covering all the core essentials of reduce, reuse and recycle with its Because We Care hamper.
It contains exclusively British-made food to reduce the impact of food miles on the
environment. Carefully sourced and tested, this deli food comes from small family businesses local to Hay Hampers. In addition to this, there is no palm oil contained in any of the products in this gift.
The packaging of every item in the present is recyclable and cellophane plastic has been minimised. Furthermore, the open woven basket it comes in can be reused and serve as a reminder of the giver.
Something else that will live long in the memory is the recently completed US presidential election – it is over isn’t it? Surely, they’re not still counting.
Merchandise stars
The breakout merchandise star of the previous election in 2016 was Donald J Trump’s famous red MAGA hats, and they were back this time, bigly! In fact, Trump spent $11.4m on merchandise, compared with only $2m for his competitor Joe Biden.
Finally, a C word that isn’t COVID looms into view – Christmas. However, in these tierful times, it is as fraught with concern as the other C. Is Christmas cancelled? Who knows, but the Christmas party certainly is. Stuart Derrick, promotional products commentator, reports.
decorate your own gingerbread men kits that can slip through the door. As well as gingerbread men, you can also have brownies and Christmas cake. Each kit comes with two icing tubes, sprinkles and an edible logo. Sweet!
Another little item that I thought was rather cute as a Christmas greeting/ gift, is the Pen Warehouse’s new greeting card and pen. It’s incredibly simple, but the best things often are.
The company supplies a branded A5 greeting card with a Mood ballpen slotted inside. It is available in five to seven working days and you can choose from seven pre-set designs or supply your own branded artwork.
The greeting card is made in the UK and is FSC certified, while the laser engraved Mood ballpen is refillable. It is also available with a selection of other writing instruments, and of course, it’s letterbox friendly. We can’t stay away from the other C-word for long unfortunately, what with Lockdown 2.0 upon us. I must admit I’m not enjoying it as much the original. Let’s hope this franchise gets killed off soonest. While we still have to deal with it, there are merchandise options to help you out.
They’re great MAGA hat Christmas decorations
As well as the usual hats, buttons, and T shirts, there were some new and innovative items. Face masks featured heavily on the Biden-Harris ticket, demonstrating how the medium can sometimes become the message. The Democrats also had some fun after a fly landed on vice-president Mike Pence’s head during his debate with Kamala Harris. They rushed out a branded fly swatter with the message ‘Truth over Flies’. The Trump team had its own fun with merchandise, including MAGA hat Christmas decorations, and reusable straws that poked fun at liberals’ plastic straw bans. Let’s hope they managed to sell them all.

Following the successful launch of anti-viral face masks and snoods, Screenworks has introduced antiviral gloves to its Bumpaa range. As well as keeping your hands warm, the gloves are treated with ViralOff technology which is claimed to reduce tested viruses, (including the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19), by more than 99% on the material in two hours. You have to hand it to them – they sound great.
