Roland DG starts worldwide sales and support of DIMENSE products R
oland DG Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, announced today the start of sales and support for DIMENSE, a large format digital printing solution with unique three-dimensional embossing. DIMENSE is developed and manufactured by DG DIMENSE, a new joint venture established in Lithuania in October 2023.
“By offering the unique added value created by DIMENSE to customers around the world, we will accelerate the digitalisation of the interior decoration market,” said Tony Miller, President of Roland DG’s global sales and marketing division.
The DIMENSE solution consists of the Dimensor S inkjet printer combined with special media that has
the property of foaming when heated, a structured ink to control foaming, and CMYK water-based ink that is safe for use indoors. After printing, the media is heated by the printer’s on-board heater, which causes areas not coated with structure ink to foam up to 1.5 mm thick, faithfully realising the envisioned textured design. This innovative solution enables on-demand output of graphics with a three-dimensional presence. DIMENSE has developed an exclusive line of PVC-free media, which is friendly to both the environment and people. Several finishes of media are available, including matte, suede, metallic silver, metallic gold, pearlescent, and chameleon, enabling the production of a wide variety of interior decorations, including wallpaper, as well as point-of- purchase materials.

Young People In Print (YPIP) Group launches A
newly established group dedicated to inspiring the next generation by bridging the gap between
education and the dynamic world of printing has announced its launch. With a mission to cultivate a passion for entering the printing industry among young minds, the group of volunteers will deliver engaging events held at printing facilities across the UK welcoming groups of students from local schools and universities.

Bowerman, a long-term advocate of the need to attract young talent into the industry to ensure the future success of the sector, comments: “We are reaching out to schools and universities to enable students to see for themselves how amazing the print and packaging industries really are.” With an annual turnover of £13.7 billion and employing around 98,000 people in 7,200 companies, the UK printing sector

is an important economic contributor in all UK regions and is the fifth largest print market in the world. It is also an advanced manufacturing sector, utilising cutting-edge innovation and production technologies, connecting organisations around the world. Despite this, attracting young people to work in the industry continues to be a challenge. “It has an ageing skilled workforce and the number of tradespeople working in print is plummeting - by 73% between 2006 and 2021 according to the latest data,” Elizabeth shares. “Workers are approaching retirement and there is a risk their skills will be lost, which could have serious consequences for our industry if not mitigated.
“Sadly, our industry has an old-fashioned image, and there is very limited print or packaging education available today, apart from print apprenticeships, but even then, not all printers are using their levy to fund employees,” she explains, citing negative (yet false) environmental perceptions and competition from better-publicised industries like aviation, engineering, automotive and biotech, among other barriers to encouraging young people to the sector.
expression with commonly available paints, it is possible to create awe- inspiring artistic effects that are different from digital printing.” Miller added. The line-up also includes textile media ideal for indoor signage such as silicone edge graphics, canvases, roll- up banners, and POP, etc. Due to their compliance with safety standards such as AgBB and A+ certification, these media can be used safely in a variety of indoor situations.
“It is said that less than 5% of wallpaper printing has been digitized, and this industry is expected to accelerate. There is also a growing need for commercial facilities that provide people with an unforgettable experience, and for offices and living spaces that are uniquely their own, and digital printing solutions will play an increasingly active role in this interior decoration.” Miller said.
