AECOM Asia Co’s Chris Yoshii (Vice President) and Beth Change (Executive Director) look at new project openings, trends, and market outlooks across Asia.

Chimelong Qingyuan Resort Soft Opening The Chimelong Group is opening its third large-scale themed entertainment and resort complex in Guangdong Province. Chimelong Qingyuan Resort is located about one hour north of Guangzhou city within a lush green forested area of Qingyuan City. As with their other successful resort complexes in Guangzhou and Zhuhai, Chimelong Qingyuan Resort has an animal and nature-based theme with multiple theme parks and themed accommodations. Phase 1 covers some 300 hectares (740 acres) and includes Chimelong

Forest Kingdom theme park and a 1,258-room Giraffe Kingdom Hotel. A drive-thru safari park is under construction and expected to open in the summer of 2025. The Forest Kingdom theme park includes animal exhibits, shows, family

rides, a kids' area, and nature education experiences. The landmark of the Forest Kingdom theme park is a 120-meter-tall Ferris wheel. One of the most popular experiences is a 30-minute train ride. The Forest Kingdom theme park has a tiered pricing structure, with adult ticket prices ranging from CNY 260 to 350 (US$36-$49). Legacy Entertainment, based in Los Angeles, was one of the key creative

design firms on the project, continuing their long-term relationship with Chimelong. The Forest Kingdom theme park had a soft opening on January 25, 2025,

during the Spring Festival. According to published sources, the number of daily visitors is expected to reach 50,000 during the weekend peak period,

and the annual number of tourists is expected to grow to 8 to 10 million. There is plenty of room for future expansions. In addition to the drive-thru

safari park, there are plans for a live performance show venue, a hot springs attraction, and multiple themed hotels. 
