New ride drops at Conny-Land
Conny-Land, the biggest theme park in Switzerland, has unveiled a crazy new drop ride
RES GmbH, Ride Engineers Switzerland, an award-winning global leader in design, manufacture and installation of amusement rides has announced the launch of its Indoor Vertical Drop Tower at Conny-Land, Switzerland’s largest theme park. Conny-Land has named the ride The Crazy Professor, which tells the story of a mad scientist that succeeds in defying gravity. Conny-Land carefully planned the interactive media experience and theming, and constructed a new building to house the RES 20-meter Vertical Drop Tower. The Crazy Professor comes to life through storytelling projected on one large size multimedia screen installed over different levels of the tower. As the story unfolds, guests are thrilled with multiple unexpected special effects. The interactivity of the ride creates a unique and lively experience which begins with the pre-show, a collaboration with Nick Farmer and his team at UK-based Farmer Attraction Development. Since the ride’s opening, Conny-Land’s social media has been flooded with positive feedback.
Conny-Land and RES began collaborating on the Indoor Vertical Drop Tower ride back in 2018. The Crazy Professor Ride is the first installation of the Conny- Land and RES partnership, where the aim will be to develop a completely new ride every two years, all of which will be prototypes. RES holds many creative discussions with Conny-Land owner, Roby Gasser, and his two sons, which is how the Crazy Professor came about. Roman Rothe, RES technical director and co-owner, says: “Working with the Gasser family and their attention to even the smallest detail has resulted in a world-class Indoor Drop Tower that is only found at Disney in the USA.
RES has a variety of tower rides that range from 50 passenger observation towers as tall at 75m, to tipping towers that move back and forth, side to side, rotate 360 degrees, and feature multiple drops. RES’ newest generation of drop towers deliver unexpected free-falls without sensing any warning in advance of the drop, leaving riders surprised and thrilled. Multi Drop Towers offer additional free falls per ride cycle by moving up and down the vertical track various times.
