Getting ready for change – how White Rose Education is looking forwards


T


here’s change in the air in the education world at the moment and at White Rose Education, we’re really excited by the opportunities presented to help support young people achieve as well as they can in maths and science. October saw the publication of the Post- 16 Education and Skills white paper, from November 10th OfSTED inspections will be carried out under a new Education Inspection Framework and we’re all eagerly awaiting the final report of the Curriculum and Assessment Review expected later this term.


Developing Post 16 provision


We were excited by the direction and ambition of the Post-16 Education and Skills white paper — especially its focus on supporting every learner to deepen their mathematical understanding.


The proposals highlight a renewed commitment to supporting students on their journey towards achieving a GCSE or equivalent qualification in maths. This aligns perfectly with our mission to make maths accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all learners, whatever their starting point.

The new OfSTED EiF


Using White Rose Education can provide schools with strong support when preparing for inspection under the new Ofsted framework, particularly in demonstrating a well-sequenced, inclusive, and high-quality curriculum. The schemes of learning are carefully designed to ensure clear progression and coherence across all year groups, helping teachers to build pupils’ knowledge and understanding. This structured approach aligns with the focus on curriculum intent, implementation, and impact.


A key strength of White Rose resources is their adaptability. Lessons and materials can be tailored to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those with SEND or who require additional challenge. This flexibility supports inclusion by enabling teachers to adjust pace, content, and scaffolding, ensuring that every pupil can access and succeed. In addition, White Rose materials and training professional learning opportunities help teachers to deepen their subject knowledge and strengthen pedagogical practice. This commitment to continuous professional growth not only enhances classroom practice but also evidences a strong culture of learning within the school—an area highly valued under the Ofsted framework.


We’re especially encouraged by the plans for a new Level 1 qualification, designed to provide a strong foundation for students progressing towards GCSE or further study. After our highly regarded professional development programme with over 40 colleges in the last few years, we look forward to working with the new Technical Excellence Colleges to support teachers and learners alike. We’re excited to build on our previous success with Post- 16 provision by collaborating with colleges to create bespoke resources that respond to the specific challenges and opportunities within this new qualification.

The Curriculum and Assessment Review


We’re also eagerly awaiting the final report of the Curriculum and Assessment Review, which will help us plan and further enhance our already rich offer for learners from nursery right through to age 18. We don’t have a crystal ball and can’t be sure of the details of the Curriculum and Assessment Review, but we’re pleased with the mindset of “evolution not revolution.” From the interim report, it’s clear that the emphasis on foundational knowledge and a mastery approach fit closely with the White Rose Education philosophy. It’s likely some content may move between Key Stages and there’ll be more emphasis on data literacy and digital learning. We’ll be ready to work with and support teachers all the way, through the consultation and drafting of new curricula so that when changes are implemented - probably in phases from September 2026 onwards - we’ll have everything in place to meet their needs, and most importantly those of all learners.
