Inclusion and Reducing Exclusions: Supporting Students Before They Reach Crisis Point
N
ot every student finds school easy. For some, the classroom can be a place of anxiety, frustration or quiet withdrawal rather than progress and participation. The reasons vary – confidence, learning differences, home life, social pressures but the outcome is often the same. A student begins to switch off and attendance dips.
At TLC LIVE, we believe every young person deserves an education that feels accessible, positive and suited to them. Over many years of working with schools and local authorities across the UK, we’ve seen what happens when the right support is in place early on. A student who was drifting begins to reconnect, progress picks up and behaviour improves. And crucially, exclusion becomes far less likely.
Inclusion and reintegration don’t happen by accident; they take early, targeted intervention that meets students where they are. That’s why our team designed the Engage and Accelerate programme – a short- term, focused package for students in mainstream settings who are at risk of underachievement or early disengagement or exclusion, and for those who need support reintegrating back into school after a period of absence or alternative provision.
Delivered online by qualified teachers, the programme runs for six to twelve weeks, with three to five hours of English, Maths or Science tuition each week. Lessons can take place during the school day or after school, depending on what works best for the student and the school. The structure is designed to be flexible and easy to integrate, while still maintaining clear goals and measurable progress. Each school is supported by a dedicated account manager who is available throughout the placement for anything they need. Alongside core subjects, we can offer sessions in areas such as ASDAN Short Courses, AQA Unit Awards, mentoring, PSHE and more, allowing schools to tailor the experience to individual students and outcomes. While the impact is clear, the principle behind it is simple. When students feel seen, supported and capable, they start to re-engage. When they’re given space to learn in a way that suits them, they find their rhythm again - making the transition back into school life smoother

and more sustainable.
Education should be something every young person can access and enjoy, not something that feels out of reach. By working together to provide early, personalised support, we can keep more students in mainstream education, build confidence from the inside out and prevent the need for reactive intervention later.
At TLC LIVE, we’re proud to stand alongside schools in making that happen, because every student deserves the chance to thrive.
