What makes the Life Skills and PSHE package at TLC LIVE different from standard tutoring?
Our Life Skills and PSHE Package offer engaging PSGE-based sessions designed to develop real-life knowledge, emotional well-being and social confidence. Covering topics ranging from personal action planning, emotional wellbeing to basic IT skills, and students see improved literacy, decision-making and independence. It’s ideal for post-16 students with SEMH needs, care leavers and vulnerable young adults or students on a supported integration plan.
How does the TLC LIVE Re-engagement & Mentoring package help students at risk of disengagement?
Our Re-engagement and mentoring package helps support students in building positive routines, strengthening engagement, and developing emotional regulation and self- confidence. It is designed socially for young people who may be disengaged, anxious, or struggling with motivation and confidence. The mentoring element places a strong emphasis on well-being, motivation, goal setting, and reflection, helping each student prepare for a smooth and confident return to an educational setting.
Can tutoring really change long-term outcomes for students?
Tutoring puts the student at the very centre of their learning journey and their outcomes. By allowing individualised support, you let students
learn at their own pace, towards their own goals, including their own areas of interest. What type of students benefit most from these packages?
Any student who is not successfully accessing full time, mainstream education. The reasons behind disengagement are broad, the solutions are the same. Bespoke, individualised education working towards outcomes that the student can buy into.
How do parents and schools know if tutoring is making a difference? The best feedback we get from parents, students and schools is that they ‘see’ the difference in the student. Their behaviour, how they interact with family members or their friends, seeing a student becoming more confident is almost always the first sign.
Is online tutoring effective for life skills and mentoring?
Yes, online tutoring and mentoring can be highly effective for developing life skills- especially for young people who cannot currently attend a traditional education setting due to anxiety, medical needs or similar barriers.
Here’s why it works: Comfort and safety – participating from home removes the stress of busy classrooms or unfamiliar environments which can increase anxiety and make it easier to focus and communicate. Flexible pacing – Sessions can be scheduled and adjusted to match a student’s energy level or health requirement, allowing learning and personal development to continue even during period of illness and recovery. Individual attention – One-to-one online
sessions allow mentors to tailor strategies for well-being, motivation, goal setting, and self- confidence.
Gradual re-engagement – online mentoring can serve as a bridge, helping students rebuild routines, social skills and self-confidence before transitioning back to a physical education setting.
How are these new packages delivered in practice?
The new packages are delivered through a blend of personalised, one-to-one sessions, tailored to each young person’s needs. Delivery typically includes:
Regular scheduled sessions: Core Academic tuition – working towards GCSE or Functional Skills with a focus on life skills and PSHE covering real-world knowledge, careers education and personal well-being Holistic mentoring and reviews: Half -termly progress reviews with full reports ensure that students, parents/carers and schools can track outcomes and adjust goals. Flexible settings: Sessions are delivered online, allowing access for young people for are anxious, medically unable to attend a setting, or re-engaging after disruption. Multi-agency collaboration: TLC LIVE works with EHCP coordinators, SENCOs and other stakeholders so that education, well-being and career planning are integrated.
This structure provides consistent academic teaching, personal development, and career guidance while accommodating medical, anxiety or other barriers to attending a traditional classroom.
