Sport England backs exciting new video platform to inspire more teenage girls to get active through fun PE experiences

S

ince its launch in 2015 Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign has inspired nearly 4 million women to become active. Now, the popular

campaign is powering a brand new video-on-demand platform – www.studio-you.co.cuk - helping schools inspire teen girls to enjoy physical activity, at an age when many disengage. Currently only 43% of girls aged 13-16 achieve the recommended hour

of activity a day and 64% of girls quit sport altogether by the age of 16-17. With an active lifestyle opening up a lifetime of significant physical,

mental and social benefits, Sport England is seeking to reverse this trend with this new platform. Co-created with teenage girls, Studio You is freely available to all PE teachers and features over 100 curriculum-based video lessons, all searchable by discipline and duration of lesson. In line with This Girl Can’s ethos Studio You’s emphasis is on fun,

community and personal fulfilment. The videos, which are even themed by mood (from Energise through to Relax), remove the competition and performance elements of PE that can alienate some and instead opens girls’ eyes to exciting new disciplines including Combat, Barre and Yoga. Stewart Orton, Director of Sport from Fortismere School, one of a select

group of schools trialling Studio You said: "Studio You has totally rejuvenated PE for girls at Fortismere. Traditionally, girls' participation can seriously dip in teenage years. We have found that the wide ranging content on Studio You has been a significant factor in retaining our girls' motivation for PE and for keeping active. Importantly it's given girls in our school a real sense of pride in what they've achieved.” Why not make today the day that you inject some new creativity and fun

into your school’s PE experience with www.studio-you.co.uk. Who knows? It might just help spark a new love of physical activity in your most disengaged students…

Back to school withMicroban® antimicrobial solutions N

ow, more than ever, it is essential to get students back into a clean and fresh classroom that

supports improved learning. However, cleaning protocols can be challenging to maintain, especially in schools and universities. Furthermore, these institutions are laden with busy traffic areas and high- touch, moisture-rich environments prone to bacterial growth, leading to a build-up of stains and odors that can proliferate. For these reasons, products and equipment used in

education facilities are now being treated with antimicrobial technologies – such as those from Microban International – to help them stay cleaner for longer and limit any further disruptions to classroom- based teaching. These powerful technologies can also help to protect products and equipment from deterioration caused by microbial growth, making them more durable and resistant. This not only benefits users in the short term, but also decreases the long-term costs of replacing damaged products. Microban antimicrobial product protection can be

applied to everything from decorative paints and wall partitions, to electronic devices, toys and even stationery. In fact, one leading manufacturer of stationery and accessories in the USA has already applied Microban technology to its range of products, including notebooks, binders, folders and more, ensuring antimicrobial resistance for the lifetime of the product. The built-in component found in Microban-treated products creates an inhospitable environment for microbes, providing inherent continuous protection for

cleaner, more durable solutions. This intrinsic action complements a regular cleaning schedule, to maintain a cleaner education setting and deliver added peace of mind for every teacher and student as they return to the classroom.
