Don’t wait! Get your pupils thinking about their future now

E

VERFI, an education company committed to addressing societal issues through the power of education, are supporting teachers

this term by helping them offer their students a future-focused view on the opportunities available to them when they leave school. Through their Thinking of the Future series, teachers will have the chance to explore a range of topical areas in the classroom -from STEM to sustainability and data science. Recent evidence suggests that between 2017 and 2029, the number of

STEM-related jobs will grow 8 percent, a higher rate than non-STEM jobs, as our world continues to evolve, especially in terms of technology. But it’s not just about jobs, trailblazers like Greta Thunberg have highlighted the critical importance of sustainability and the need for behaviour change in the way we live our lives. The passion and desire to learn about these topics already exists, the key is to provide teachers with available assets to unlock the conversation. EVERFI is committed to supporting teachers to help their students

understand and successfully navigate the future that awaits them. Looking at the future of our world through the lens of sustainability, data science and STEM, through a range of free resources, EVERFI provides insight and knowledge into how the students of today can create a better future for all tomorrow. Driving social impact through education, to address the most challenging

issues affecting society, is at the core of EVERFI’s course offerings. Ranging from financial wellness to mental health and other critical topics such as STEM and data science - all courses are created with the aim of preparing young people for a successful future. David Marsh, Head of Science and STEM programme lead at Reading Girls School said: “It is more important than ever to give students the opportunity

to explore STEM careers, girls and BAME students in particular. This course shows them the aptitudes needed for STEM careers and encourages them to think about careers they may not have considered.” To help teachers deliver insight to their students, EVERFI’s Thinking of the

Future series focuses on three digital courses covering these topics for students aged 11-14, they are:

• Sustainability Foundations: This course introduces students to the concept that our world is made up of interconnected systems, governed by natural principles, discussing the impact their choices have on these systems

• Endeavour: This course helps students to explore STEM careers connected to their interests and aptitudes while practicing STEM concepts that are key for career readiness

• Data Science (coming soon): This course aims to inspire students to pursue data-driven careers and is designed to empower students with knowledge about the fundamentals of data science and how it is applicable to everyday life.
