Willow Edginton and Divna Vijay, aged 14 pupils from Dover Grammar School for Girls, have been named the Kent, Surrey and Sussex winners in an annual competition designed to encourage young people to consider a career in the NHS. The announcement comes as the Step into the NHS competition

relaunches for its 14th year in primary and secondary schools across England. Young people are being invited to be inspired and raise their awareness of over 350 career opportunities in the NHS. To enter the competition, primary school pupils are asked to create a

“thank you” to the NHS that shows an understanding of NHS careers and challenges gender stereotyping. Local school in Clifton steps into the Strictly spirit with dance classes hosted by Robin Windsor

3,240 schools have signed up to the NSPCC’s online Speak out. Stay safe. assembly

Following the launch of the new series of Strictly Come Dancing on the 18th of September, Whitegate Primary School welcomed ex Strictly star Robin Windsor to host a day of dancing across all year groups. The school hall on Monday the 20th of September transformed into a ballroom, with staff and pupils learning the steps and dancing to the music. Whitegate Primary School, supported by Transform Trust, offers a truly

engaging enrichment curriculum for all pupils to enjoy based on equality and their four Trust values: Respect, Kindness, Equality and Creativity. Schools across the UK have seen a renewed focus on physical and mental health, creativity and self-expression to support pupils as they return to a new normal following the Covid-19 pandemic. Dancing is an excellent way for pupils to express themselves creatively and try something new. Various year groups and teachers from across the school all took part

throughout the day in different workshops and concluded with a dance competition to put their newly learnt steps to good use. Four pupils were also chosen to be interviewed by BBC Radio Nottingham and they explained what a positive impact dancing has had on their school. Their teacher Miss Noel said: “The children absolutely loved it and we

watched videos in the morning of Robin on Strictly Come Dancing to get them ready. Robin was so friendly and answered all of our questions as well as letting staff take a selfie with him”

hosted by Ant & Dec More than 3,240 schools have signed up to the NSPCC’s online Speak Out. Stay Safe. assembly – and the charity is encouraging more schools across the UK to get involved. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the NSPCC’s trained Speak Out. Stay

Safe. volunteers were unable to go into schools deliver vital safeguarding messages to primary school children. In response to this, the online assembly hosted by Ant & Dec was launched in September 2020. With the impact of the pandemic continuing to affect many children’s

lives it remains vital that young people know what to do and who to speak to if something is happening in their life which is making them feel scared or anxious. The NSPCC is encouraging all primary schools across the UK to sign up

to access the assembly and accompanying resources by visiting NSPCC Learning. Before the pandemic the NSPCC delivered its assembly face-to-face, in

more than 90% of all primary schools across the UK, and in 2019/20 the charity visited nearly 7,000 schools, and delivered workshops to almost 1.6million children before lockdown was imposed. The assembly helps children understand how to recognise different

forms of abuse in an accessible and age appropriate way, and how to speak out if they need to. In addition, the NSPCC is offering supporting teacher resources with

plenty of engaging activities, while the assembly and accompanying materials are also available in Welsh, British Sign Language (BSL) and there is a version available for children with special educational needs.
