4-12 NEWS Highlights from the UK education sector 13 VIEWS

With Sonia Mainstone-Cotton, author and early- years consultant 14 BESA CORNER

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. This month, we’re focusing on the subject of the UK’s exam landscape. Exam time is a stressful time not just for pupils but also for teachers, and we open with a look at teacher stress and how to mitigate it and improve the wellbeing of staff. In our second feature, we take a look at the Steiner Waldorf Schools’ Fellowship approach to exams with a fascinating piece from Kevin Avison, Executive Officer at the Fellowship, who raises some thought-provoking points about the way we assess our children. Also in this month’s issue, we look at

the use of modular buildings in schools, and discuss the importance of allowing natural light into our classrooms. We continue our new section shining a spotlight on the many aspects of SEND with Joanne Gladders and Kate Sarginson, have Graham Cooper as always offering insight and advice, and a great roster of commenters sharing their thoughts on the world of education. What’s more, we continue our section

on UK education writers, “From the pen of…”, with Sonia Mainstone-Cotton, author and early-years consultant working in schools, who continues the theme of teacher stress. One final note – coming up in next

month’s issue, we’ll be looking at school suppliers, and also asking how schools can overcome the learning gap between the end of the summer term and the start of the new academic year. Remember, you can get in touch with

us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email. We love hearing from you!
