Editor’s comment

While the world drew breath at the turn of the year, countries turned to one another and said “Well, at least we don’t have to do 2020 again. This year is going to be much better!” America looked at the other countries and said, “Hold my beer!” We recently heard the sad news that casino visionary Sheldon Adelson has died. While he lived to a very respectable age and lived a full life, Adelson represented a generation of dreamers and doers in our industry that have shaped the world we now work in, and we are so much poorer for the gradual loss of this generation. Safe journey, Sheldon. Elsewhere, MGM has tabled a bid for Entain/GVC. While discussing this with a friend I suggested it might signal one of the biggest shifts in company focus and policy our industry has seen; my friend then tactfully pointed out that well, MGM used to just make movies, so they have history of not only changing focus, but succeeding at it. That shut me up. He was absolutely right, of course. I’ll get my coat. Stay safe, see you soon.
