BATHROOM FURNITURE

Current and future trends C

urrently, we’re seeing several trends dominating our sector. Bathroom designs have become more minimalistic with refined details and hidden features, offering a much cleaner look with elevated functionality. Smart storage – designed with compact living in mind – is also key to the overall scheme, seeing more efficient use of space especially in an urban setting.

Comment by Erdem Akan Design Director, VitrA Bathrooms

Simultaneously, wellness remains a high priority. Our modern lifestyle has resulted in the bathroom being more than “just a bathroom” – not only is it a space where we clean but a place of sanctuary where we refresh and relax. Bringing the outdoors in – for instance, using houseplants and natural materials – also helps create a calming space to enhance both our physical and mental states. Based on our extensive in-house research, coupled with what we’ve seen at global events this year, we also expect a few “micro” trends to

emerge – and potentially accelerate – in the next 12 months.

Hygiene may sound obvious but after the pandemic, it has become more important than ever. While VitrA Hygiene – a unique glazing process applied to all our ceramicware – inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria by 99.9%, our Rim- ex and SmoothFlush rimless toilets eliminate anywhere for germs and dirt to accumulate. Meanwhile, sustainability is set to become a norm, hence water-efficient and energy-saving designs are vital to reduce our consumption and make our everyday lives much greener. And finally, many may get nervous about introducing colour to the bathroom but small touches, such as brassware, offer a simple and subtle way of doing it without going “full avocado”. At VitrA, we’re launching a new series of brassware finishes – from soft copper to soft gold – bringing colour as well as a sense of sophistication to the bathroom.
