As the UK’s leading independent building materials distributor, The Encon Group is experienced in supplying specialist and high-performance solutions to help customers achieve project requirements and objectives.

Specifiers and installers often look for the reassurance that a building will meet its objectives, beyond minimum requirements. Considering all aspects of the buildup early in the process avoids causing costly delays down the line if remediation work is required. Prioritising an external wall build-up where fire performance, moisture management, airtightness and detailing work together as part of a coherent strategy is an important consideration and minimises risks later in the project. As a national stockist of the DuPont™ building and construction product range including their newest innovation, breather membrane DuPont™ Tyvek® Trifecta, design teams can benefit from reliable fire performance solutions for the building envelope. DuPont™ Tyvek® Trifecta™, and other complementary fire tested membranes, AVCLs and tapes, are all available from Encon’s nationwide branch network, together with access to reliable manufacturer support and technical expertise.

Beyond minimum standards Different fire tested breather membranes can appear similar, and it is not until you look into the detail that you see which materials are best suited to your project. That is where Tyvek® Trifecta™ stands out. It is an A2-s1,d0 breather membrane for external walls, but there is much more to the product than just its reaction to fire classification. The minimum membrane guidance commonly discussed in Approved

Document B is class B-s3,d0, but Tyvek® Trifecta™ goes beyond requirements for when clients and design teams want extra reassurance for buildings over 18 metres tall and residential schemes, as well as safety critical environments such as schools, universities, hospitals and leisure centres. As with all fire tested membranes, Tyvek® Trifecta™ should not deviate from testing methods, so the substrate, fixing methods and system detailing should match that used in the original testing.

Performance beyond fire While the fire classification is the headline, Tyvek® Trifecta™ also delivers W1 water resistance; the highest class for breather membranes and particularly relevant for rainscreen cladding, especially within exposed locations. It also remains vapour open, so moisture within the wall can still dry outward as per the wall design.

When detailed and installed correctly, Tyvek® Trifecta™ can provide an external airtightness line as part of the wider envelope strategy, particularly on retrofit projects where the design team is trying to improve airtightness via the external facade. It also offers up to six months of UV exposure resistance, which can make a genuine difference on larger jobs, allowing additional exposure time for other trades on site. That said, the main reason it is specified should remain clear: it is an A2 classified breather membrane for projects where that level of performance is wanted or required.

Product and Technical Support Working closely with a trusted distributor, stakeholders can make consistent decisions and reduce risk across the envelope. The Encon Group’s longstanding manufacturer relationships working with leading brands across the project build means specifiers and contractors benefit from the full support of our experienced teams as well as access to relevant technical knowledge and expertise from our manufacturer partners. This is particularly important for projects where the external wall build-up is considered as part of a joined-up strategy and where access to expert support from the manufacturer’s technical team can help develop your strategy at an early stage. DuPont can share best practice installation approaches and issue training support before work starts, enabling contractors and designers to maintain high levels of competency amongst their operatives. This kind of conversation can save time, reduce uncertainty and help avoid consequences too far down the line.
