design & build homes for every life stage

Darryl Cope, UK Consumer Operations Director at Stiltz Homelifts puts forward the case for homelift installation...

Homes are typically designed around how we live today, not how we might live in five, ten or twenty years’ time. Future-proofing matters because needs change. A knee gives out. A disability manifests. An older parent moves in. Homes should flex accordingly. Three-storey properties are increasingly

common with families seeking more space without expanding widthways. But height raises a question: how does everyone move between floors comfortably, for as long as they continue to live there? Stairs can fall at the first hurdle as safe

movement between floors is what makes a home liveable for a parent recovering from surgery, a wheelchair-using child seeking

independence, or an older person wanting to age in place and stay connected to their community. That’s where a homelift changes what’s possible. Stiltz designs, manufactures and installs compact homelifts which travel on their own supporting rails; no shaft, no machine room, no load-bearing walls to factor in. A simple floor opening and standard domestic socket is all that’s needed. Several homelift types are available to suit all tastes, needs and budgets. For architects and designers, that’s real

freedom back on the table. For builders and developers,

it’s manageable at construction stage

rather than a major retrofit later. In M4(3) homes, the lift is installed permanently. For M4(2) schemes, the void and power can be prepared until needed. Stiltz specialists can provide drawings, guidance, documentation and advice. The company has installed more than 40,000 homelifts worldwide since 2010, and is trusted by many of the UK’s largest housebuilders. Building for accessibility isn’t only about

compliance. It’s about designing homes people won’t outgrow, so a home for now, can become a home for life. To request information on the M4 specification pack, or to book a meeting, visit stiltz.co.uk/housebuilders
