While at the last count 129 entries were recently removed from the Heritage at Risk Register for positive reasons, a further 138 sites were added. These are the sites in need of urgent action, the ones that have been left to decay, sometimes abandoned by their owners yet ironically deemed register, there are countless other buildings that once played a vital role in their communities now sitting boarded up and unused on high streets across the country.
This wider backdrop makes it clear that the challenge on how to modernise and repurpose heritage and cultural assets, particularly those not considered at immediate risk, continue to leave many local areas stumped. The enormity of taking on the
