Less is More (Profit) with Mimaki’s latest products

I

t might sound an intriguing proposition, but the current product line-up from Japanese hardware manufacturer, Mimaki is proving that less can be more… Andrew Gregory is Sales Director at Mimaki’s UK and Ireland distributor; Hybrid Services and we asked him to shed some light on the concept.

So, let’s take it from the top Andrew, what is “Less is More” all about? This all starts from the ethos that drives Mimaki’s product development – the goal of delivering “Something New, Something Different” and products we’re showing at Sign & Digital UK perfectly encompass that, with new and different solutions launched across the range. By taking a different approach to introducing new technologies, Mimaki is able to answer some of the challenges faced by print businesses on a daily basis, such as: How can I reduce my energy consumption? How can I save on consumables costs? How do I improve my productivity? Can I remove bottlenecks in my production? How can I offer more products to my customers? Many of the products featured on the Hybrid stand at Sign & Digital UK

showcase how Mimaki effectively resolves these challenges through cutting-edge technology.

There’s no doubt that current energy costs are a key factor for businesses – how is Mimaki helping to address this?

Products like the new Mimaki UJV100- 160Plus 1.6m printer use the latest cold cure LED UV technology, requiring less than 500 watts of power to run. Compared to all other ink technologies, it’s a fraction of the power – and therefore less cost – to operate, and of course there are other important benefits from this too. By reducing energy consumption, signmakers can simultaneously reduce their CO2 emissions, leaving a smaller carbon footprint and lowering their environmental impact.

How are you saving ink? Looking at our most recent product launches, such as the Mimaki CJV330- 160 solvent printer/cutter, the JFX600- 2513 high production flatbed and the UJV100-160Plus entry level UV model, they all include a free copy of Mimaki’s latest RasterLink RIP software. This

incorporates some clever technology that can save around 30% of the ink whilst delivering comparable print results. Colour balance and image quality are maintained to within a barely perceptible Delta E difference, and because it’s controlled from the RIP software, it’s very easy for the print operator to do, making it a quick and easy process to set up.

And how about the time-saving benefits?

Mimaki’s LED UV inks are instantly cured on the material, so signmakers will benefit from both the high print speeds of products like the new UCJV330-160 printer/cutter and the ability to finish and pack jobs immediately after print. This really helps save time and pressure when you’re up against the clock, having a job that can be taken off the printer and either laminated, cut, rolled up or put in a tube to send out. It’s the ‘Fit, finish or ship’ idea – whatever’s required of the job after it’s been printed can be done straight away, speeding up or cutting out time consuming post-print processes.

The new UJV100-160Plus is one example of Mimaki’s innovative approach to announcing products that help reduce costs for sign businesses.

Anything else we need to know? Managing print waste is a critical concern for every sign and print company. Hybrid offers a unique, rebate-linked cartridge recycling scheme for many of Mimaki’s popular solvent printers and printer/ cutters. This scheme not only reduces landfill impact but also rewards our customers with free ink. The “Let’s Do MORE” initiative, launched by Hybrid in 2008, has successfully diverted tons
